A fraternity?

So how does our fraternity work, and what do we do?
Here’s a quick explanation.

What is a student fraternity?

A student fraternity is an association of students and former students who share common values and want to live, grow and flourish according to certain student traditions.

Stammtisch

We meet every week to spend informal evenings together, which we call Stammtisch.

Convent

Every month we organise a Convent, an internal meeting where secrecy and free speech are the order of the day. It is a democratic body that governs the life of the fraternity.

Kneipe

We organise Kneipe on Saturdays once a month. It’s a traditional and codified form of student party, where we sing and have fun!

Trips

We also organise a lot of trips around Germany, Switzerland, Austria etc to visit different student fraternities with similar values to ours that we get on well with.

…and much more!

It’s much more rewarding to experience than to read about!

Our home

We also have a shared flat in Strasbourg where some students can stay at a very reasonable price. When you’re there, you’re really at the centre of fraternity life!

Which role

Fux

When you become a Fux, you become an apprentice member of the RSA.

You remain a Fux for between two and four semesters, at the end of which you sit an exam. If you pass, you become a Bursch.

Bursch

When you’re a Bursch, you’re an RSA member for life.

Which status?

Active

An active member of the fraternity is a student member who has the opportunity to get involved in the RSA.

Inactive

An inactive member is a member who is a student or who has just finished his or her studies and who, for various reasons, can no longer be as involved as an active member.

Elder

An Elder member is a member who has completed their studies. They are still part of the RSA, but no longer have to invest themselves as much as an active member.
